Global rice exports declined by 7% y-o-y to 56.9 million tonnes (mnt) in CY'25, as per data maintained by BigMint. Trends diverged across regions, but India continued to dominate global rice trade in CY'25, accounting for 45% of global trade volumes. Indian products can enter Turkiye via Europe, but Turkiye cannot send goods to India under the India-European Union free trade agreement (FTA) terms, officials said. Under the EU-Turkey Customs Union, Turkiye has to match the EU's common external tariff. So, when the EU lowers its tariffs for an FTA partner such as India, Turkiye would have to extend the same benefit to India.

India and the European Union have finalized a landmark free trade agreement. This pact will slash tariffs on over 99% of Indian exports, including apparel and chemicals. After the Philippines and Senegal lifted curbs on rice imports, India’s agri export promotion body APEDA has resumed registering export contracts for non-Basmati rice to both countries with immediate effect. The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) said in a notice on Wednesday that it has resumed the issuance of Registration-Cum-Allocation Certificates (RCAC) for the export of non-Basmati rice to Senegal.
